What is Dash
Dash (DASH) is a cryptocurrency for fast, inexpensive payments. Evan Duffield launched it in January 2014 under the name XCoin; the coin was then renamed Darkcoin and, in 2015, Dash — from “digital cash”. The project is based on Bitcoin’s code but focused on everyday payments from the start.
Dash’s key feature is its two-tier network. Alongside miners it runs masternodes — servers whose owners have locked up collateral in DASH. Masternodes power InstantSend, which locks in a payment almost instantly, and ChainLocks, which protects the blockchain from being rewritten. Dash was also one of the first to introduce decentralised governance: part of the issuance goes to a treasury, and masternodes vote on which projects to fund.

What Dash is used for
- Payments. Fast confirmation makes DASH convenient for paying for goods and services.
- Transfers. Low fees suit sending money to individuals.
- Masternodes. Collateral holders receive a share of block rewards.
- Investment. DASH is one of the oldest cryptocurrencies with its own governance system.
How to exchange Dash at ROVEN exchange
- Choose a direction, for example DASH → USDT TRC20 or USDT TRC20 → DASH, and enter the amount.
- If you’re receiving DASH, enter a Dash address starting with “X”.
- Create the order — the rate is locked for 30 minutes — and send the exact amount to the address in the order.
- Thanks to InstantSend the network locks in the transfer quickly, so a swap usually takes 5–20 minutes.
What to watch out for
- Dash addresses start with “X” or “7”. Don’t confuse them with Bitcoin or Litecoin addresses — they’re different networks.
- Check that your wallet supports Dash itself, not similarly named tokens on other networks.
- The CoinJoin feature in the Dash Core wallet mixes coins for privacy; a regular transfer is enough for a swap.
- Before sending, compare the first and last characters of the address.
InstantSend and ChainLocks
On regular Bitcoin-based blockchains the recipient has to wait for block confirmations. On Dash, masternodes vote on a transaction and lock it in within a couple of seconds — that’s InstantSend. Such a transaction can’t be reversed or rewritten. ChainLocks additionally secures each new block with a signature from a group of masternodes, protecting the network from history-rewriting attacks. InstantSend now works automatically for all transactions.
How to store Dash
DASH is supported by Dash Core, Dash Wallet for smartphones, Trust Wallet, Exodus and the Ledger and Trezor hardware wallets. Dash Core is a full wallet with CoinJoin and masternode support. Keep your seed phrase offline.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a DASH transfer take?
InstantSend locks a transaction in within a couple of seconds, and the whole swap at ROVEN exchange usually takes 5–20 minutes.
Does Dash need a memo?
No. Every recipient has their own address; no memo is used.
Can I send DASH to a Bitcoin address?
No. They’re different networks, and funds sent to the wrong address format may be lost.
