What is USDT ERC20
USDT ERC20 is the Tether stablecoin issued on Ethereum under the ERC20 standard. Its price is pegged to the US dollar, and according to Tether each token is backed by reserves. The Ethereum version appeared in 2017 and remains the most “compatible” one: every major exchange, hardware wallet, payment service and decentralised protocol accepts it.
If USDT TRC20 is chosen for cheap transfers, USDT ERC20 is chosen for its ecosystem. Almost all major DeFi liquidity is concentrated on Ethereum: lending protocols, decentralised exchanges and liquidity pools. To take part in them, you need USDT on Ethereum specifically.

What USDT ERC20 is used for
- DeFi. Lending, liquidity pools and swaps on decentralised exchanges.
- Hardware wallet storage. Ledger and Trezor support USDT ERC20 out of the box.
- Large transfers. Ethereum’s reliability makes the fee negligible relative to the amount.
- Services that accept only ERC20. Some exchanges and platforms work with USDT exclusively on Ethereum.
How to exchange USDT ERC20 at ROVEN exchange

What to watch out for
- Sending USDT ERC20 requires ETH — without it the transfer won’t go out.
- Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain and layer-2 addresses look the same. Make sure Ethereum is the selected network.
- Gas gets more expensive under heavy load. If the transfer isn’t urgent, it’s cheaper to send it at a quiet time.
- Don’t confuse the token’s contract address with a deposit address: anything sent to the contract usually can’t be recovered.
Approvals and security
When using DeFi, you grant smart contracts approvals to spend your USDT. If a site turns out to be malicious, such an approval lets it move tokens without your confirmation. Review your approvals from time to time in an explorer or dedicated tools and revoke unnecessary ones. A swap service doesn’t need any approvals — an ordinary transfer is enough.
How to check a USDT ERC20 transfer on Etherscan
Open etherscan.io and paste the transaction hash. The Status field should say Success. Note that the To field shows the USDT contract address rather than the recipient — that’s normal for token transfers. The actual recipient and amount appear in the ERC-20 Tokens Transferred section, where you can also click the token name to confirm the contract matches the official one. The Transaction Fee field shows how much ETH went on gas.
