Swapping Bitcoin Cash for Polkadot: what you need to know
Exchanging BCH for DOT is useful when you rebalance a portfolio or want to move from one network to another without buying stablecoins in between. At ROVEN exchange the coins are swapped directly, and the rate is locked when you create the order.
Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is a 2017 fork of Bitcoin with bigger blocks and fees of a fraction of a cent. Polkadot (DOT) is Gavin Wood’s network that unites many parachain blockchains under shared security.
Why swap BCH for DOT
Shifting between BCH and DOT is a normal part of managing a portfolio: you change your exposure without cashing out to fiat. With DOT you get access to the apps, staking and tokens of the Polkadot network.
Networks and addresses
| You send BCH | You receive DOT | |
|---|---|---|
| Network | Bitcoin Cash | Polkadot |
| Address | “q…” or “bitcoincash:q…” | starts with “1” |
| Network speed | a block comes roughly every 10 minutes | a block comes every 6 seconds |
| Memo / tag | Not needed | Not needed |
What to watch out for
- Don’t send BCH from a Bitcoin wallet or vice versa — they’re different networks.
- A new Polkadot address must receive at least 1 DOT, the account’s minimum balance.
- The rate is locked for 30 minutes: send BCH within that time and you’ll receive exactly the amount shown in the order.
How long the swap takes
Swap speed depends on both networks. On Bitcoin Cash, a block comes roughly every 10 minutes; on Polkadot, a block comes every 6 seconds. The whole BCH to DOT swap usually takes 5 to 30 minutes once your transfer is confirmed.
Right now ROVEN exchange swaps BCH for DOT at 1 BCH = 317.048255 DOT, with a minimum of 0.066667 BCH. Fill in the form above: no sign-up is needed, and you can track the order status online.
