Swapping Cosmos Hub for Polkadot: what you need to know
To switch from Cosmos Hub to Polkadot you don’t need to sell for dollars first and then buy again. ROVEN exchange does it in one step: one order, one rate, one payout.
Cosmos (ATOM) is the coin of the Cosmos Hub, the centre of an ecosystem of interconnected blockchains. Polkadot (DOT) is Gavin Wood’s network that unites many parachain blockchains under shared security.
Why swap ATOM for DOT
Coins serve different purposes, and sometimes holding DOT makes more sense — for faster transfers, staking or the Polkadot ecosystem. With DOT you get access to the apps, staking and tokens of the Polkadot network.
Networks and addresses
| You send ATOM | You receive DOT | |
|---|---|---|
| Network | Cosmos Hub | Polkadot |
| Address | “cosmos1…” | starts with “1” |
| Network speed | a block comes every 6 seconds | a block comes every 6 seconds |
| Memo / tag | Required, from the order | Not needed |
What to watch out for
- When sending ATOM, paste the memo from the order; staked coins take 21 days to unbond.
- A new Polkadot address must receive at least 1 DOT, the account’s minimum balance.
- When sending ATOM, include the memo from the order, or the payment will have to be traced manually.
- Send the exact amount from the order and do it within 30 minutes, while the locked rate is valid.
How long the swap takes
Swap speed depends on both networks. On Cosmos Hub, a block comes every 6 seconds; on Polkadot, a block comes every 6 seconds. The whole ATOM to DOT swap usually takes 5 to 30 minutes once your transfer is confirmed.
The current rate is 1 ATOM = 1.667963 DOT and the minimum amount is 12.5 ATOM. Create an order in the form above, and ROVEN exchange will send swap updates by email or Telegram.
