Swapping Cosmos Hub for Bitcoin: what you need to know
Exchanging ATOM for BTC is useful when you rebalance a portfolio or want to move from one network to another without buying stablecoins in between. At ROVEN exchange the coins are swapped directly, and the rate is locked when you create the order.
Cosmos (ATOM) is the coin of the Cosmos Hub, the centre of an ecosystem of interconnected blockchains. Bitcoin (BTC) is the first and largest cryptocurrency, with a capped supply of 21 million coins.
Why swap ATOM for BTC
Shifting between ATOM and BTC is a normal part of managing a portfolio: you change your exposure without cashing out to fiat. Bitcoin is most often bought for long-term holding as “digital gold”.
Networks and addresses
| You send ATOM | You receive BTC | |
|---|---|---|
| Network | Cosmos Hub | Bitcoin |
| Address | “cosmos1…” | “bc1…”, “1…” or “3…” |
| Network speed | a block comes every 6 seconds | a block comes roughly every 10 minutes |
| Memo / tag | Required, from the order | Not needed |
What to watch out for
- When sending ATOM, paste the memo from the order; staked coins take 21 days to unbond.
- A Bitcoin address starts with “bc1”, “1” or “3” — don’t confuse it with a Bitcoin Cash address.
- When sending ATOM, include the memo from the order, or the payment will have to be traced manually.
- The rate is locked for 30 minutes: send ATOM within that time and you’ll receive exactly the amount shown in the order.
How long the swap takes
Swap speed depends on both networks. On Cosmos Hub, a block comes every 6 seconds; on Bitcoin, a block comes roughly every 10 minutes. The whole ATOM to BTC swap usually takes 5 to 30 minutes once your transfer is confirmed.
Right now ROVEN exchange swaps ATOM for BTC at 1 BTC = 47 221.56 ATOM, with a minimum of 12.5 ATOM. Fill in the form above: no sign-up is needed, and you can track the order status online.
