Swapping USD Coin for Cosmos Hub: what you need to know
If you hold USDC ERC20 and want Cosmos Hub, you don’t need an exchange account. At ROVEN exchange the swap takes a few minutes: you see the final amount in advance, and an operator checks every order by hand.
USDC ERC20 is Circle’s regulated stablecoin on Ethereum, with reserves attested monthly. Cosmos (ATOM) is the coin of the Cosmos Hub, the centre of an ecosystem of interconnected blockchains.
Why swap USDC ERC20 for ATOM
A stablecoin is a handy way to hold dollars, but to benefit from market growth or use the Cosmos Hub network you need ATOM itself. With ATOM you get access to the apps, staking and tokens of the Cosmos Hub network.
Networks and addresses
| You send USDC ERC20 | You receive ATOM | |
|---|---|---|
| Network | Ethereum (ERC20) | Cosmos Hub |
| Address | “0x” + 40 characters | “cosmos1…” |
| Network speed | a block comes every 12 seconds | a block comes every 6 seconds |
| Memo / tag | Not needed | Only for an exchange address |
What to watch out for
- Send USDC on Ethereum, not Base, Polygon or Solana — those are different versions of the token.
- The address must start with “cosmos1”, not the prefix of another Cosmos network.
- If you’re receiving ATOM to an exchange address, be sure to enter that exchange’s memo.
- To send USDC your wallet needs some ETH to pay the network fee.
- Send the exact amount from the order and do it within 30 minutes, while the locked rate is valid.
How long the swap takes
Swap speed depends on both networks. On Ethereum (ERC20), a block comes every 12 seconds; on Cosmos Hub, a block comes every 6 seconds. The whole USDC ERC20 to ATOM swap usually takes 5 to 30 minutes once your transfer is confirmed.
The current rate is 1 USDC = 0.677857 ATOM and the minimum amount is 50 USDC. Create an order in the form above, and ROVEN exchange will send swap updates by email or Telegram.
